myIR Mobile
Easily file and pay your GST.
I worked on-site at Inland Revenue in 2014 to deliver myIR Mobile for iOS. As the lead iOS developer and representative of SUSH Mobile, I built the application from scratch with a dedicated team of awesome individuals in a tight timeframe. The project was unique as the idea for the app and its design was crowd sourced in a national APP4IR competition.
About myIR Mobile
A closer look.
Built from the ground up. As lead iOS developer and SUSH Mobile’s on-site representative, I built New Zealand’s first government tax-filing app from scratch with Inland Revenue’s designers, business analysts and testers under a tight delivery window.
Secure from the first tap. Regular security audits shaped the Objective-C implementation, with Keychain storage, SSL pinning and careful session management protecting access to sensitive tax information.
Tax in one place. The home screen brought GST returns, payments, obligations and help together, giving customers a clear starting point for managing tax from their iPhone.
Know what is due. Return cards made deadlines and filing states immediately visible, distinguishing work that was ready, complete or overdue before it became a surprise.
Guidance by design. The nationally crowdsourced APP4IR concept became a practical mobile experience, with contextual guidance helping people understand adjustments, filing rules and common GST scenarios.
From ready to filed. Customers could open a GST period, complete and submit the return, then revisit its status and summary once filing was complete.
Payments without paperwork. The app let customers choose an outstanding GST period and make a payment from the same experience, extending the journey beyond filing alone.
A record to keep. Completed returns produced a clear calculation summary that customers could download and retain as an official record for their business.
Answers without the hunt. The help centre organised guidance around returns, payments, profiles and the app itself, making support easier to find at the point it was needed.
Built for real businesses. Profile tools kept business details, authorised users, terms and notification preferences together, supporting the practical administration behind each tax account.
Help is close. Direct contact details and calling hours made Inland Revenue support easy to reach when a question needed a person rather than another screen.
