Secure message history at global scale.
At Meta, I led teams on Messenger’s end-to-end encrypted messaging migration, helping take encrypted message history from early prototypes through dogfooding, public testing and global rollout to more than two billion users. The work combined hands-on engineering with cross-functional technical leadership.
About Messenger
A closer look.
From prototype to global launch. I took Encrypted Backups on iOS from proof of concept through dogfooding and public testing, building the UX and prototypes while owning localization, instrumentation and supporting the promotional campaigns that carried it towards launch.
Onboarding at global scale. As a staff engineer, I rebuilt Messenger’s end-to-end encryption onboarding on iOS and upgraded its architecture for scale. By September 2025, the experience had reached more than two billion users worldwide.
Highlight
Coordinating iCloud at Meta scale. I worked directly with Apple on iCloud integrations for secure message history, coordinating capacity and global rollout deadlines. I designed shared iCloud Drive, iCloud Keychain, CloudKit and iCloud Key-Value Storage libraries for Messenger, Facebook and Instagram.
One rollout across teams. I identified gaps, delegated workstreams and negotiated scope across engineering, product, design, data science, security and leadership, supporting iOS and Android through public testing and global rollout. I also joined the Facebook team to aid in their global delivery.
It's in the details. I built the original recovery flows that let users automatically restore their message history using iCloud. I also built most of the settings flows where users can control how they restore their message history on new devices. I actively lobbied for BDD, pushing for high test coverage and high SLA compliance.
Ready for every language. I supported localisation across Messenger’s encrypted message-history experience, helping onboarding and recovery remain clear as the product systematically rolled out across territories to people all over the world.
