About Kiwibank
A closer look.
Built from the ground up. As lead iOS developer, I guided the complete native rebuild of Kiwibank Mobile Banking from early 2015 through to its launch. I built major components and features from the ground up while working on-site with Kiwibank staff.
A foundation for growth. I worked in a SCRUM-based team using TDD to establish the app’s MVP architecture and dependency-injection foundations, creating a modular base for secure banking features, clearer ownership and continued product development.
Security at a touch. I delivered Touch ID sign-in within Kiwibank’s security and session-management requirements, establishing the integration patterns that later supported Face ID. I also developed the logic to handle the various flows for PIN setup and login.
Custom-rolled UX. I implemented a lot of custom user experience interactions in the app. This included the side menu, horizontal transition effects between quick balances and login, as well as the responsive account balance header, which is still in use over 10 years later.
One team, one direction. I managed SUSH Mobile’s on-site team, planned delivery with Kiwibank’s mobile specialists and aligned both organisations around a shared product direction. I also trained existing developers and new recruits to carry the work forward.
Beyond the launch. Once the rebuilt app went live, I joined Kiwibank’s Digital Innovation lab to explore and deliver confidential mobile solutions beyond the core banking experience.
Banking on your wrist. I pushed the product into new territory by prototyping Apple Watch functionality for stakeholders and helping secure its place in the rebuilt app.
